He also serves as sport administrator for the women’s basketball and softball teams, providing oversight and guidance for each program to help ensure their continued success in line with the Department’s and College’s goals and mission.

Macapugay is primarily responsible for all the media relations and communication efforts for the Bears’ 14 intercollegiate varsity sports, overseeing the content creation for the department website, social media accounts, and print. Macapugay has helped place student-athletes in the New York Times, Daily News, Sports Illustrated, and Newsweek. In 2015 and 2016, he promoted the selection of SJC Brooklyn’s first two College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans.

A former web developer and corporate intranet manager, Macapugay spearheaded four redesigns of the athletic department’s website, SJCBears.com. He's grown the SJCBears social media presence to over 3000 combined followers for an institution with one of the smallest enrollments in the entire NCAA.

Arriving in Clinton Hill in the first year of the Division III provisional process, the Brooklyn native was heavily involved in assisting the department to achieve full membership on schedule in 2011. He later helped in the planning for The Hill Center—the college’s first on-campus athletic facility—assisting with many of the design elements for the state-of-the-art 40,000 square foot facility which opened its doors in 2014.

Through his internship program instituted in 2009, he has helped start the careers of several former interns who currently hold head or assistant positions in sports information/athletic communications at all levels of the NCAA.

Outside of St. Joseph’s, he is a game night statistician for the Brooklyn Nets and their G League affiliate Long Island Nets. Macapugay also serves as a statistician and public address for several local colleges and is a statistician for numerous basketball games and tournaments at the Barclays Center including the 2017 and 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournaments. He also serves as the director of sports information and championships for the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Macapugay received his Bachelors of Science in management, cum laude, from Boston College in 2000. He in is an active member of CoSIDA and served on their continuing education and new media committees.

A life-long Kings County native, he resides in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with his wife Jaclyn, an SJC alumna.
