NEW YORK — After scoring a new career high and recording her team-leading fifth double-double of the season, freshman Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) has been selected as the Skyline Conference women's basketball Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office earlier today.
The 5-foot-10 freshman averaged 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over a 1-1 week for the Bears. She opened the week with 10 points and eight rebounds in a victory over Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday and erupted for a career- and game-high 32 points with 10 rebounds and three steals in an overtime loss at USMMA on Saturday.
With her second 30-plus point game of the season and 15th straight game scoring in double-figures, O'Donnell lifted her average to 16.5 points per game, ranked fifth in the league, and collects her league-leading fourth Rookie of the Week honor this season.
The Bears (7-11, 5-6) return to Brooklyn to open a three-game homestand at The Hill Center, hosting Farmingdale State (9-10, 8-4) in a Skyline Conference matchup on Tuesday, January 30 opening a doubleheader with the men. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. with live stats and video available on SJCBears.com
