Mangan Sixth at York Invitational

BRONX, NY - Two weeks after setting the school record in the women's 5K, sophomore Teresa Mangan(Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) broke the school record in the 6K at the York Invitational on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park. Her time of 26:40 was good for sixth place overall, breaking the previous record of 29:59 by over three minutes. Alyssa Collier from Ocean College won the meet in 25:29. The Lady Bears finished 14th as a team with 323 points.

Freshman Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis), running in her first collegiate 6K, finished second on the team with a time of 33:16. She placed 62nd overall in the field of 120 runners. Also scoring for the Lady Bears were sophomore Kathy Ann Matthews(Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Arts), freshman Michelle Chiancio and junior Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch).

Over on the men's side, sophomore Derrick Akwei (Bronx, NY/Port Angeles HS) was the Bears' top finisher, completing the 8K course in 37:27. Running in his third 8K race, freshman Joe Mendez (Glendale, NY/St. Francis Prep) set a personal record, breaking 40 minutes for the first time with a time of 39:41. All five of the Bears' scorers broke 40 minutes.

The two teams complete their seasons this Sunday at Purchase College with the Hudson Valley Men's and Women's Athletic Conference Championships. The gun is set to go off at for the women's race at 10:30 a.m. and the men's race at 12 p.m.
